Instrument Pilot Airplane Requirements (FAR 61.65)
- Hold private pilot certificate
- Pass required knowledge exam (70%)
- Must log 50 hours of cross country PIC
- 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time
- 15 hours of actual or simulated training time with CFII
- 3 hours training in preparation for the practical within 60 days of test
- Cross country flight under IFR with CFII - 250nm, including 3 different approaches at 3 airport
- Pass the practical exam with a flight examiner
